As production rate increase, most companies will start looking toward semi-automatic and automatic water filling machines on portable frames. The semi-automatic water Filling machines will still require an operators to either place bottles on a conveyors or slide the container under the fill heads manually. Semi-automatic water liquid fillers may use simple indexing, but in most cases will still require some type of activation from the operator of the packaging machines. Semi-automatic filling machinery can be used with other packaging machines on a line or can act as stand alone filling machines.

Automatic filling machines will be manufactured using the same frame as the semi-automatic machine, but will include a PLC with a touchscreen operator interface. This features allows semi-automatic filler to be upgraded in the future should production rate grow. These machines can roll up to almost any existing power conveyor systems to begin running productions. Of course, most automatic liquid filling machine will be a part of an inline packaging systems, which will include a conveyor systems and other machinery such as container cleaning equipments, capping machines, labelers and any other machineries necessary to automatically prepares a product and package for the consumers. This means, as a general rules, as production rates increases, so does the space required to perform the packaging.

However, there are options to continues to save spaces. First of all, even automatic machinery can function as a stand alone filling station (or capping, labeling or any other function). This can allows one portion of a packaging process to be automated to increase the overall efficiency of a packaging lines while still saving spaces. The downside, of course, is that other packaging functions will still be performed manually or with machines, limiting the true efficiency of the automatic fillers.

A second option to save spaces and increase automation is a mono block packaging system. Similar to a uni frame systems, the mono block will allows for more than one packaging functions. However, the mono block system will position the different packaging components around a star wheels to allow for automated packaging in a smaller footprint than one would find with an inline systems. For example, a mono block systems may include a bowl to sort vials, drop them into position in the star wheel, then fill and cap the vial as it moves around the star wheels.

In the end, there is a unique solution for each packaging project that will allow the company to maximize efficiency based on the available space and the production requirement. Exploring and understanding the different options will allow the packager to make the best possible choice.
